Project Management: Theory and Reality

We are extremely proud of our Dallas-based faculty of instructors and coaches who supply that critical instruction for our project management programs.

Let’s talk a little bit about the philosophy of project management instruction.

This is a newly emerging field and one that is gaining traction quickly in the business world. Project managers work in many exciting fields, from technology and healthcare to construction, transportation, and public administration. They do that with valuable credentials and skills and experience to match.

In a way, there are two sides to project management learning that prepare you for advanced roles and responsibilities. There’s the theory, and then there’s the reality.

The Theory of Project Management

Our instructors are well-versed in the theoretical components of project management.

For instance, there is critical path analysis, which is so central to many types of project management work.

At its core, critical path analysis is about mapping out every potential task and looking at what’s most mission-critical. You figure out dependencies between tasks, and you start to see the process from a birds-eye perspective in order to plan better. This can have all sorts of positive impacts on processes, as we explain to students over time using examples and learning resources.

Project Management: The Reality

Beyond the theory, though, there is the point where the rubber meets the road. There’s the context of business where reality interjects and adds facets to what project managers do or don’t do.

So our people are well-versed in this as well. They understand the practicality of working in an environment where people interact with processes, and where you might say that the politics of buy-in affect what’s possible.

In other words, you’re not doing business in a vacuum, and our instructional models reflect that.

By really preparing our students for the modern world of project management, we set the stage for their success in this exciting field. By investing in a good knowledge base and the right kinds of strategic enrichment, we are able to stand behind how we prepare students for credentialing. Feel free to call and ask us any questions about our approach and what we offer. We want our students to move forward with a good, solid foundation in project management, in both the theory and the practical side. With our boot camps, as well as our PMP, CAPM, and PMI-ACP classes, we dig into the PM world the right way, to help our students thrive later in their careers – wherever they may take them!
